BJP accorded constitutional status to OBC Commission:

BJP national general secretary Bhupendra Yadav Monday said that it was BJP which ensured the constitutional status for Commission for Backward Classes whereas RJD along with Congress had "opposed" it in the Rajya Sabha. "There has been demand for 70 years for reservation for backward classes but even after the implementation of reservation for backwards, the constitutional status was not given to the backward class commission. It is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who accorded the constitutional status to the commission for backward class," Yadav told reporters here.

The bill granting constitutional status to backward class commission was defeated in the Rajya Sabha when it was brought for the first time, he said adding that RJD along with Congress had opposed it. It will give the National Commission for Backward Classes the full powers to safeguard the rights and interests of the Other Backward Classes(OBCs).

Earlier, the NCBC, a statutory body was created in 1993 and was given limited powers only to recommend to the government inclusion or exclusion of a community in the central list of OBCs. Taking a swipe at Lalu Prasad's eldest daughter Misa, who is contesting from Pataliputra Lok Sabha seat as RJD nominee against Union minister Ram Kripal Yadav, the BJP general secretary said the lady who is contesting from Patliputra "could not speak a single word" on the bill when it was brought for the second time in Rajya Sabha.

"The person who cannot utter a single word in Parliament, the person who cannot speak on any issue, how can she represent either people or the society ... Your ability can be measured on the basis of what you said (in Parliament). "What contributions you have made in making the legislation. What is you view or opinion on any matter. The absence of ideology has no meaning in politics," said Yadav who is also a Rajya Sabha member and Bihar BJP in-charge.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes in "Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas" which is evident from the fact that the government gave 10 per cent reservation benefit to economically weaker sections among general category, he said. Yadav exuded confidence that PM Narendra Modi would return to power with bigger majority than last time and said NDA will win 40 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar while BJP and NDA will form the government at the Centre with much bigger majority than what it had won in the last Lok Sabha elections."
