Sidhu congratulates BJP for victory in LS polls

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu Thursday congratulated the BJP for its landslide victory in the Lok Sabha election. Sidhu, while campaigning in Uttar Pradesh last month had said he would quit politics if Congress president Rahul Gandhi loses from Amethi seat in the Lok Sabha election, took to Twitter to hail the BJP's performance in polls.

"I take a bow to the mandate of the people of India...Voice of the people is the voice of God. Congratulations to the Bharatiya Janata Party," he tweeted. Sidhu had remained MP four times on the BJP ticket before switching sides to the Congress. He is now a minister in the Congress government in Punjab and has a 'blow-hot-blow cold' relationship with state Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

Sidhu also had to face the wrath of the Election Commission for violation of the model code of conduct while addressing rallies in favour of Congress candidates in different parts of the country.
