Sharingain Longkumer, a first-time MLA, was elected unopposed as the deputy speaker of the Nagaland Assembly on Tuesday. Speaker Vikho-o Yhoshu said only Longkumer has filed nomination for the post and declared him elected.
The post fell vacant following a reshuffle in the ministry on July 23, in which the then Deputy Speaker Zhaleo Rio was made a minister. Longkumer, 37, was elected as the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) nominee in a by-election on April 11 from Aonglenden seat.
