West Bengal assembly adjourned after obituary references

The West Bengal Assembly was adjourned on Monday after obituary references were made to six persons including prominent politicians Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit. The special session of the Assembly will continue till September 6.

Speaker Biman Banerjee read out obituary references to former Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, former Lok Sabha MP Ajoy Mukhopadhyay, former MLAs Gobindra Chandra Mondal and Kalipada Barat. Dikshit, the longest-serving chief minister of New Delhi, died on July 20 this year.

Swaraj, who was the external affairs minister from 2014 to 2019, expired on August 6. Jaitley, the former union finance and defence minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet, died on August 23..
