Soren launches scheme to provide dhoti, saree to BPL beneficiaries at Rs 10

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday launched the Rs 500-crore Sona-Sobran Dhoti Saree Distribution Scheme under which BPL beneficiaries will receive dhoti/lungi or saree twice a year at only Rs 10.

He also virtually inaugurated 18 other projects worth over Rs 37.92 crore and laid the foundation for several initiatives worth Rs 230.76 crore from Dumka.

Speaking on the occasion, Soren said that the subsidised sale of clothes will benefit lakhs of people and urged the poor to avail the scheme.

Noting that his government has launched new schemes for various sectors ranging from agriculture to industry, the chief minister asked the elected representatives to apprise people of the schemes. ''Mineral-rich Jharkhand will become strong only when the villages are empowered,'' he said.

Soren said his government is continuously working to attract investments and has framed a new industry-friendly policy.
