Encyclopedic yet easily accessible, the updated edition of ''Indian Mammals: A Field Guide'' covers a rich diversity of mammal species in India -- from tigers, elephants, rhinoceros and whales to primates, rodents and bats.
The illustrated guide, written by India's leading wildlife conservationist Vivek Menon and published by Hachette India, is widely considered an ''essential resource'' for wildlifers of any age, including animal watchers, eco-tourists and active conservationists.
Besides covering over 400 species of both terrestrial and aquatic mammals with introductory pages on each order, the new edition also includes key identification features, biometrics, behaviour, social strategies, habitat and distribution.

This is a totally updated version of Indian Mammals, containing all the new species we have in our country and following the same easy-to-refer format that made this field guide so popular before,'' said Menon, who has written and edited nine bestselling books on Indian wildlife, in a statement.
Over 1,000 carefully curated photographs and supplementary illustrations, 140-plus updated distribution maps, and live-action field notes from the author are other key highlights of the updated edition.
