CII Southern Region lines up action plan to transform South India

The Confederation of Indian Industry, Southern Region has drawn up an action plan for transforming South India by 2047, a top industry official has said.

The CII would come up with 12 district development plans to promote industrial growth and job creation in the southern states this year.

Chairman of CII Southern Region Kamal Bali, in a press release, said the focus would be on key enablers of growth that would propel the economy of the states.

He said the plan was to focus on people and culture rejuvenation, holistic sustainability, environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG), technology adoption, digital transformation, embracing energy transition, innovation and startup ecosystems, manufacturing excellence, Industry 4.0 international linkages, MSMEs, membership engagement and brand building, and sectoral promotions, he said.

''CII will work closely with the state governments in bringing state-level policies on manufacturing and industry 4.0 as these are very important in realising the economic goals and vision of southern states,'' he said.

Bali, also the president and managing director of Volvo Group India, said the industry body would set up a state-level task force on digital transformation to support industries in their digitalisation initiatives.

''This is primarily to make CII member companies ready for industry 4.0,'' he said.

CII would promote cities like Chennai as the financial capital of India. The metropolitan city can also become a global hub for Global Capability Centres in view of the large presence of such centres which were already located in the city.

On the TN government's vision to achieve a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030, Bali said, ''We at CII have suggested an action plan to the government. CII will focus on important areas like renewable energy, media and entertainment, electric vehicles, medical devices, electronics among other sectors.'' ''CII will also work with the state government in transforming Tamil Nadu as a media and entertainment and animation hub of India,'' he said.

CII Southern Region deputy chairperson R Nandini said the region has 2,953 members as of date and 62 per cent of these members are under the micro, small, and medium enterprises category.

''Tamil Nadu leads the country with 1,369 members,'' she added.
