COP24 Summit is being held at the International Conference Centre, Katowice, an industrial hub, about 100 kilometres from Krakow. It will continue till December 4.
President Buhari is expected later during the conference to deliver a national statement highlighting Nigeria's commitment to addressing climate change by implementing the goals set out as part of the nation's contributions.
The conference is expected to finalise the rule book in the implementation of the Paris agreement on climate change reached in December 2015 in France. He has attended the summit with several top government officials including Geoffrey Onyeama (Nigeria's Minister for Foreign Affairs), Babagana Monguno (National Security Adviser) and Bawa Abubakar (Minister of State for Environment). Even Yahaya Bello (the current Governor of Kogi State), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Executive Governor of Enugu) and Abubakar Sani Bello (governor of Niger State) are also in Poland President Buhari.
The statement revealed said the Summit is expected to adopt a ''Declaration on Solidarity and Just Transition Silesia,'' – named after the region of Poland where 2018's climate conference is taking place.
