Rescuers in Maharashtra’s Palghar district are racing against the clock as over 72 hours have passed since an excavator operator became trapped under debris following a tunnel cave-in at a water project site. The operator remains untraced despite relentless efforts.
A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, along with the local disaster cell, conducted extensive technical and physical searches using sniffer dogs, and drilled holes in the tunnel to insert cameras. However, the excavator and its operator are yet to be located.
The mishap occurred at the Surya water supply project site in Sasun Navghar village. Authorities are cautiously removing debris with diamond cutters to prevent further collapses. The project, aimed at supplying MMR's increasing population with drinking water, has left the operator's family and co-workers anxiously waiting for his safe return.
