In a move to address air pollution, Haryana is set to roll out a Rs 10,000-crore project funded by the World Bank, announced Chief Secretary T V S N Prasad on Monday. According to an official statement, the Haryana Clean Air Project for Sustainable Development will be implemented in phases, initially targeting districts within the National Capital Region (NCR).

The initiative includes significant enhancements to the state's air quality monitoring systems, the establishment of a cutting-edge laboratory, and the modernization of four existing ones. A dedicated programme management unit will oversee the project's implementation.

Core interventions include promoting electric vehicles (EVs) by electrifying public transportation fleets and offering incentives for private EV adoption. Industries will also receive financial incentives to switch to cleaner energy sources, and measures will be taken to combat stubble burning through in-situ crop residue management practices.
