Thunderstorms and Rain to Lash Andhra Pradesh This Week

The Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms in parts of Andhra Pradesh from June 4 to 7, accompanied by gusty winds and heavy rainfall. The Southwest Monsoon is advancing further into central and southern regions, contributing to these weather conditions. Heavy downpour was recorded in 205 locations across the state on Sunday night.

The Meteorological Department on Monday forecasted thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning, in parts of Andhra Pradesh for four days from June 4 to 7.

Thunderstorms are expected in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema, with gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km per hour (kmph).

According to the Department's press release, the cyclonic circulation over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal persists, now seen up to 3.1 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestward with height.

The Southwest Monsoon has moved further into parts of the central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, noted the Department. The northern limit of the monsoon currently passes through Honnavar, Ballari, Kurnool, Narsapur, and Islampur.

Conditions are favorable for the Southwest Monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of the central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, southern Maharashtra, Goa, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next four to five days. Similar weather conditions have been forecast for parts of the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal.

Additionally, Sunday night saw heavy rainfall in 43 locations of Andhra Pradesh, with the highest recorded at 125.7 mm in Narsipatnam. A further 205 locations experienced rainfall ranging between 15.6 mm and 64.4 mm, confirmed Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director R.
