A major fire erupted at Eye7 Chaudhary Eye Centre in southeast Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area on Wednesday, according to officials.
No injuries were reported in the incident, a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official confirmed.
Police suspect the blaze was caused by a short circuit in an air conditioner situated on the ground floor of the two-storey building.
Social media was abuzz with several videos showing the hospital engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the sky.
The emergency call regarding the fire came in at 11.30 am, prompting the dispatch of 12 fire tenders to the scene. Additional fire tenders were later deployed, officials stated.
All occupants managed to evacuate the hospital promptly after the fire erupted.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer S.K. Dua noted that a total of 20 fire tenders were engaged in bringing the blaze under control by 1.10 pm.
The flames had also spread to a cafeteria on the third floor of a neighboring building but were quickly subdued by firefighters.
A cooling operation was still underway at the site, with all machines and furniture within the hospital reported to be gutted by the fire, according to another officer.
