Goa Braces for Torrential Rains: IMD Issues Red Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert, warning residents of Goa to brace for moderate to heavy rainfall over the upcoming two days. This heightened alert comes as the monsoon showed vigorous activity over the coastal state in the past 24 hours.

According to IMD reports, several regions witnessed moderate rainfall, with some areas experiencing very heavy downpours. Forecasts indicate that both North and South Goa districts are likely to see between heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, with isolated spots possibly receiving extreme precipitation levels.

The IMD further issued an orange alert for June 11 and 12. The intense rainfall could lead to reduced visibility, traffic congestion, waterlogging, and potential power supply disruptions due to uprooted trees. The department also cautioned against the possibility of flash floods.
