Delhi's Plea for Munak Canal Water: Lt Governor Steps In

Delhi's Water Minister Atishi announced that Lt Governor VK Saxena will engage with Haryana to release Delhi's share of 1,050 cusecs of water in the Munak canal. This follows multiple pleas from the Delhi government about reduced water flow affecting the city's supply.

Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Monday revealed a commitment by Lt Governor VK Saxena to negotiate with Haryana for the release of the capital's share of 1,050 cusecs of water into the Munak canal. This assurance comes after the Delhi government repeatedly raised concerns over water shortages impacting the city.

Atishi, along with Cabinet colleague Saurabh Bharadwaj, met with Saxena to discuss the ongoing water crisis. They highlighted the reduced water levels in the Wazirabad barrage, which has led to shortages in seven treatment plants that depend on water from the Munak canal.

Further, Atishi addressed issues related to vacancies within the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). She mentioned that the DJB CEO, also in charge of GST and Public Works, will be replaced with an officer dedicated solely to the DJB, as assured by the Lt Governor. Additionally, promises were made to fill other key positions within the DJB soon.
