A fire erupted at a closed chemical factory in the Dombivli area of Maharashtra's Thane district on Wednesday morning, officials reported. No casualties were observed, and the blaze was brought under control within six hours.
The Indo Amines chemical factory, located in the Dombivli MIDC area, caught fire around 10 am due to a short circuit in an adjacent company. An explosion occurred, prompting the immediate evacuation of a nearby school, according to KDMC's disaster management cell chief, Dipak Nikam.
Thick smoke was visible from a considerable distance, and residents in the proximity were advised to relocate temporarily. KDMC commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar confirmed that nine fire engines from four different agencies managed to control the fire by 3:30 pm. This incident follows a catastrophic blast at Amudan Chemicals, which had resulted in 10 fatalities and over 60 injuries. Due to this, the Maharashtra government has initiated a survey and committee to relocate hazardous chemical industries from the Dombivli MIDC.
