Bhupender Yadav Chairs Key Meeting on Forest Fire Mitigation Strategies

Minister Yadav reviewed the current state of forest fires and the measures being taken for their mitigation.

Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, chaired a crucial review meeting today at the Forest Survey of India (FSI) in Dehradun to address the management and mitigation of forest fires across the country. The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including the Director General of Forests and Special Secretary (DGF&SS), senior Ministry officials, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) from Uttarakhand, and officers from the State Forest Department. Additionally, the Director General of the Forest Survey of India, the Director General of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), the Director of the Forest Research Institute (FRI), and senior officers from these institutions were present.

Minister Yadav reviewed the current state of forest fires and the measures being taken for their mitigation. He emphasized the importance of devising a robust strategy to combat forest fires, highlighting the critical role of public participation in these efforts. The meeting also included a review of the forest fire alert system currently in practice across the country.

A key focus of the discussion was on areas that experience frequent forest fires year after year. Minister Yadav urged states to prioritize these regions and develop suitable methods to manage and prevent recurring fires. The enhancement of early warning systems and the provision of protective gear for frontline workers combating forest fires were also deliberated during the meeting.

Minister Yadav stressed the necessity of strengthening advanced early warning systems and ensuring that frontline workers are well-equipped to handle forest fires. He highlighted the importance of proactive measures and public involvement in reducing the incidence and impact of forest fires.

This review meeting underscores the government's commitment to improving forest fire management and ensuring the safety of both forest resources and the people involved in firefighting efforts.
