Over two lakh rural households in Uttar Pradesh have been provided with tap water connections, with the water-scarce Bundelkhand region achieving an impressive average coverage of 90%, officials revealed.

The Uttar Pradesh government presented these optimistic figures to the Jal Shakti ministry on Monday evening. As per the presentation, 2,23,86,760 rural families, or 84.19%, have received tap connections under the 'Har Ghar Nal Se Jal' scheme as of Monday.

The central government's Jal Jeevan Mission aims to ensure tap water connections for all rural households across India by the end of this year. Currently, around 77.55% of rural households have been successfully connected. Remarkably, all districts in the Bundelkhand region have surpassed 90% coverage. Among them, the Mahoba district leads with 99.64% coverage, followed closely by Lalitpur (99.4%), Banda (99.01%), Jhansi (98.92%), Chitrakoot (98.76%), Hamirpur (98.75%), and Jalaun (94.37%).
