An 18-month-old boy succumbed to injuries after being mauled by a pack of stray dogs in Jawahar Nagar, as confirmed by police on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and mandated immediate steps to prevent such incidents moving forward.
The attack occurred on Tuesday night when the child wandered outside his home. The dogs dragged and bit him, resulting in severe injuries. He was initially taken to a private hospital and later transferred to a state-run hospital, where he passed away that night, according to a police officer at Jawahar Nagar police station.
Following a complaint from the child's parents, a case has been registered.
The Chief Minister urged for the establishment of a toll-free number or call center for residents to report stray dog menaces. In a meeting, he proposed forming an expert committee, including veterinary doctors and animal welfare group representatives, to investigate the reasons behind such attacks.
He also ordered a vaccination drive to control the canine threat and instructed health department officials to ensure the availability of dog bite treatment medicines in all urban and primary healthcare centers across Hyderabad and the state.
