Assam Flood Situation Improving, Yet Over 2.07 Lakh Still Affected

The flood situation in Assam is showing signs of improvement, though over 2.07 lakh people remain affected across 10 districts. The flood situation in Assam continued to show improvements on Friday, although over 2.07 lakh people remain affected across 10 districts, according to an official bulletin.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that more than 2,07,100 people are suffering due to floods in Cachar, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karimganj, Nagaon, and Sivasagar districts.

Nagaon is the worst-hit district with over 74,000 people affected, followed by Cachar with nearly 36,000 people, and Dhubri with almost 20,000 people. As of Thursday, over 2.72 lakh people were impacted across 11 districts of the state. The death toll from this year's flood, landslide, storm, and lightning stands at 113.

The administration is managing 61 relief camps and distribution centres in eight districts, currently aiding 16,613 displaced people. Relief supplies over the past 24 hours included 115.23 quintals of rice, 21.32 quintals of dal, 6.4 quintals of salt, and 442.86 litres of mustard oil for flood victims.

Currently, 572 villages are submerged and 10,228.36 hectares of crop areas are damaged. The Brahmaputra River exceeds the danger mark at Dhubri, while its tributary Disang flows above the danger level at Nanglamuraghat. Amid widespread flooding, over 77,500 domestic animals and poultry have also been affected statewide.
