Massive Rs 10 Lakh Crore Investment to Boost Urban Housing

The Indian government plans to invest Rs 10 lakh crore, including Rs 2.2 lakh crore central assistance, to provide homes to 1 crore urban poor and middle-class families. This monumental investment is anticipated to uplift real estate and allied industries, according to CREDAI and NAREDCO.
In her Budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced, ''Under the PM Awas Yojana Urban 2.0, housing needs of 1 crore urban poor and middle-class families will be addressed with an investment of Rs 10 lakh crore.'' She emphasized that this will include central assistance of Rs 2.2 lakh crore over the next five years. Furthermore, the government plans to offer interest subsidies to facilitate affordable housing loans.
Allocations have also been made for developing 3 crore additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in rural and urban areas. Reacting to the budget proposals, CREDAI National President Boman Irani underscored the government's commitment to ''Housing for All.'' Similarly, NAREDCO President G Hari Babu praised the ambitious housing plans, noting that the investment would benefit developers, construction companies, and allied industries. Other industry leaders echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the focus on urban development, rental housing, and modern infrastructure.
