New Transit Treatment Centre for Injured Wildlife in Maharashtra
A new transit treatment centre for injured animals and birds is being established at Daulatabad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, Maharashtra. This initiative aims to reduce travel time for injured fauna, which are currently taken to Junnar, Nashik. The facility is expected to be ready in 18 months.

A new transit treatment centre for injured animals and birds is being established at Daulatabad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, Maharashtra, a senior forest official announced.
“The centre will save time in taking injured animals and birds to Junnar in Nashik district,” stated Annasaheb Peharkar, Range Forest Officer for Khultabad range, in a conversation with PTI on Wednesday.
Presently, injured animals and birds from the district are transported to the transit treatment centre in Junnar, located approximately 200 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
“The facility is expected to be operational in the next 18 months. The Public Works Department is handling the construction of four out of its six buildings,” Peharkar informed.
The centre will be equipped with cages for animals and a trained staff comprising 8-10 members. “Post-mortem of deceased animals will also be conducted at the Daulatabad centre,” he added.
According to another official, a budget of Rs 11 crore has been allocated for the project.
