Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar spearheaded a significant tree-plantation initiative at the Asita ecological park along the Yamuna river in Delhi on Saturday. The event, part of the 'Ek Ped Ma ke Naam' campaign, seeks to amplify green cover and nurture the ecosystem, according to officials. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) organized the drive, with numerous agencies, students, and citizen groups participating.

An official statement revealed that a staggering 1,11,111 saplings were planted across multiple parks and green zones in Delhi. Vice President Dhankhar planted a Tabebuia Rosea sapling in honor of his mother, Kesari Devi, and his wife joined the effort by planting a sapling in honor of her mother, Bhagvati Devi. Other notable figures, including Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and National Green Tribunal Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, also planted saplings for their mothers.

Dhankhar interacted with over 250 schoolchildren, encouraging them to involve their families in tree plantation efforts for a sustainable future. Emphasizing the need for environmental protection, he appealed for widespread participation in the campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier launched the 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' initiative on World Environment Day. The vice president commended the DDA's work in transforming the once-polluted Yamuna floodplain into a thriving biodiversity park.
