The Army, deployed for rescue operations in Wayanad district, has successfully saved approximately 1000 individuals using a temporary bridge after the permanent structure was destroyed by heavy rains causing landslides, a senior official reported on Tuesday.

Col. Paramvir Singh Nagra, Commandant of the DSC Centre, stated that the Army was on high alert for the past 15 days and was called upon by the Kerala government on Tuesday morning following the devastating landslides in the area.

This severe disaster has also involved the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), state teams, the Navy, and the Air Force. Efforts are being made to bring in sniffer dogs and additional bridge equipment from New Delhi. However, due to the emerging darkness, it was suggested to temporarily halt rescue operations until daylight for safety reasons.
