Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Wednesday called for nationwide support to aid victims of the massive landslides in Wayanad, describing it as a ''colossal tragedy.''
Khan aligned with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's earlier statements, noting how the state's residents rallied during the 2018 and 2019 floods.
''To handle such a massive tragedy, we need assistance from all fronts. I hope people will show the same generosity and concern towards these victims in Wayanad,'' Khan said.
Khan urged, ''I appeal to people nationwide—it is our duty to assist these unfortunate victims of the landslides.'' Speaking from Wayanad, the Governor emphasized the collective empathy towards the victims, prompting his visit to the affected areas and relief camps.
He acknowledged the efforts of state and central agencies, including the armed forces, in rescue missions.
The landslides, triggered by torrential rains, devastated Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha early Tuesday, claiming several lives, including women and children.
