Urgent Evacuations in Wayanad Amid Ongoing Landslides

In light of ongoing heavy rains, authorities in Wayanad, Kerala, have urgently asked residents in landslide-prone areas to relocate. District Collector D R Meghasree appealed to those in high-risk zones, such as Kurumbalakotta and Lakkidi, to exercise maximum caution and move to safer areas.
The Collector stressed that residents should comply with relocation directives to camps without delay. Local self-government bodies and village officers are instructed to facilitate these evacuations immediately.
The recent landslides have resulted in 167 fatalities, including 22 children, with over 200 injuries reported. The district administration warned that these numbers may rise as more debris is cleared by rescue teams.
