Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has criticized the AAP government for failing to implement the drainage master plan, following severe waterlogging in Delhi. Khattar urged the Delhi government and the MCD to take immediate steps in the public interest to rectify the situation.
The minister emphasized the necessity of modern infrastructure and its regular maintenance, especially as urbanization continues to accelerate. "Urban problems cannot be resolved unless respective administrations take strict action against those violating building bylaws," he said during a discussion in the Rajya Sabha.
Wednesday's heavy rainfall resulted in extensive flooding and traffic snarls across Delhi, leaving residents stranded for hours. Amid this, Khattar highlighted the Modi government's past efforts in urban infrastructure improvements and its ambitious plan to build 3 crore homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
