A tragic incident unfolded in north Kolkata's Baguihati area on Friday when a 24-year-old man lost his life due to a roof collapse, according to police reports. The deceased, Dhrubajyoti Mandal of Ashwininagar, was buried under rubble and recovered after a seven-hour rescue operation involving disaster management teams and police.
Officials have ruled out bad weather as the cause, attributing the incident to the use of poor-quality construction materials. "We are diligently investigating the matter," a senior police officer confirmed.
Meanwhile, heavy downpours continue to lash parts of southern West Bengal, including Kolkata, prompting the meteorological department to caution regional residents about further rain expected through Saturday.
