A tragic incident occurred in Thane district's Tansa River on Saturday when a car was swept away by rising water levels due to discharge from a dam, officials reported.

Five individuals were celebrating on the riverbank in Shahapur when the disaster struck, leading to frantic efforts to save lives. Three of the vehicle's occupants managed to escape the torrent, but two were swept away.

Rescue teams, assisted by local fishermen, were able to retrieve the body of Ganpat Chimaji Shelkande from Kalyan, while the search for the remaining missing person continues, according to officials.
