Odisha Braces for Heavy Rainfall Over Next Three Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in various parts of Odisha over the next three days. Significant rainfall is expected, with certain areas already experiencing waterlogging. The capital city, Bhubaneswar, and neighboring Cuttack have reported substantial rainfall, disrupting daily activities.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall across different regions of Odisha over the next three days, raising alerts for potential disruptions.

In its evening bulletin, the IMD’s Bhubaneswar regional center detailed that districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Cuttack could see heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning on Tuesday. More heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several districts on Wednesday and Thursday, further complicating the situation.

Monday saw state capital Bhubaneswar drenched with 43.9 mm of rainfall from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, resulting in waterlogging in low-lying areas. Meanwhile, Cuttack registered a downpour of 29.4 mm, with other towns such as Talcher, Nayagarh, and Dhenkanal also experiencing substantial rainfall. Since the start of the monsoon on June 1, Odisha has recorded an average precipitation of 546.8 mm, below the normal 615.6 mm.
