Under-Construction Bridge Collapses in Bihar's Katihar District

A section of an under-construction bridge over the Ganga collapsed in Bihar's Katihar district on Thursday, officials reported.

The small bridge, intended to connect the Bakiya Sukhaye panchayat area to the district headquarters town, suffered a collapse but reported no casualties.

District Magistrate Manesh Kumar Meena pointed to an increased river current as a possible reason for the collapse, which is currently under investigation.

Niraj Kumar Singh, the minister in charge of Katihar district, clarified, stating, "It is not appropriate to call it the collapse of an under-construction bridge" and emphasized potential strict actions against responsible officers and contractors if operational or fully constructed bridges collapse. Over the past two months, the state government has suspended 15 engineers following multiple bridge collapses.
