Two individuals who sustained severe burn injuries in a fire at a Chinese fast food joint near INA Metro Station in New Delhi last month have succumbed to their injuries, officials announced on Saturday.
The fire, which occurred in the early hours of July 29, resulted in injuries to six people. Sunil, 46, the owner of the food joint, and Arun, 18, a worker, died during treatment this week. An official confirmed that both had critical burn injuries.
While the workers of a nearby Kerala Restaurant managed to escape the blaze, five workers at the Chinese fast food joint were not as fortunate. In addition to Sunil and Arun, Ashki, Shiva, Shiv Kumar, and Girish also sustained injuries. Sunil and Ashki were taken to AIIMS, while the others were treated at Safdarjung Hospital.
An official revealed that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, though a blast in the shop's freezer compressor following the fire was responsible for the injuries. Many shopkeepers in the area have pooled funds to send Arun's body back to his hometown in Nepal.
