4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Hama, Syria, Causing Panic and Injuries

Late Monday night, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck Hama in western Syria, sending shockwaves that were felt across Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon. The tremors, which continued into Tuesday morning, caused widespread panic among residents.

Syria's health ministry confirmed that about 65 people sustained minor to moderate injuries as they fled their homes in fear. In the town of Salamiya, located around 30 km east of Hama, residents reported rushed evacuations and sightings of balconies collapsing.

Although some structural damage was observed, serious injuries were fortunately avoided. The incident, however, brought back harrowing memories of the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake in February 2023 that resulted in over 50,000 deaths in the region.
