A five-member expert team commenced its inspection of the landslide-hit areas in Wayanad district on Tuesday, collecting rock and soil samples for analysis.

The team, led by senior scientist John Matthai of the National Center for Geosciences, was commissioned by the State Disaster Management Authority to evaluate the disaster-stricken Meppadi panchayat.

Inspection activities halted at noon due to adverse weather conditions but are scheduled to continue until August 15, according to a district administration statement. The team assessed the epicenter at Punchirimattom, collecting relevant samples and will produce a report recommending future land use to the government.
