Kerala Government Finalizes Rehabilitation Townships for Wayanad Landslide Survivors

The Kerala government has finalized two locations to build community living-style townships for victims of the Wayanad landslides disaster, according to Minister K Rajan. The disaster on July 30 wiped out three villages and claimed over 200 lives.
The identified sites, Kottappadi and Kalpetta, will host these townships. Rajan emphasized that the project aims to not only provide homes but ensure a holistic life with jobs and education for the affected families. The townships will include hospitals, public facilities, community centers, and primary schools.
Rajan highlighted the coordinated rescue efforts that began immediately after the disaster, involving multiple teams and resources to evacuate survivors and recover bodies. The government continues to support survivors with housing and employment. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also announced plans for single-storey homes that can expand to two stories as part of the rehabilitation process.
