The CIA, under the leadership of Director William Burns, is set to present a detailed ceasefire proposal in the coming days to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. Burns, working in collaboration with Qatar and Egypt, aims to find a balanced proposal that satisfies both parties.
Speaking at a Financial Times event in London with MI6 chief Richard Moore, Burns expressed his hope that political leaders would recognize the urgency of the situation and make necessary compromises. He mentioned that while most terms are agreed upon, the final negotiations remain challenging.
The conflict began when Hamas attacked Israel, leading to substantial casualties on both sides. In a joint op-ed, Burns and Moore also discussed the importance of supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and warned of reckless actions by Russian intelligence operatives in Europe.
