4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Maharashtra's Amravati District

Maharashtra's Amravati district experienced a 4.2 magnitude earthquake, causing mild tremors across various talukas and villages. No casualties or property damage were reported. The quake's epicenter was near Amzhari and Tetu villages, at a shallow depth of 13 km.

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake rattled Maharashtra's Amravati district on Monday afternoon, as confirmed by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Despite the tremors, no casualties or significant property damage were reported, said Amravati's resident deputy collector, Anil Bhatkar.

The earthquake's epicenter was pinpointed near Amzhari and Tetu villages in the Chikhaldhara taluka, occurring at 1:37 PM and at a shallow depth of 13 km, according to NCS data. Shallow earthquakes tend to be felt more strongly due to their proximity to the surface.

Residents reported feeling mild tremors in various parts of Chikhaldhara, Katkumbh, Churni, Pachdongri talukas, and the Melghat area. Additional tremors were sensed in Paratwada and Dharni, as well as in Akot and Telhara talukas in the neighboring Akola district. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), weak shaking might have been experienced up to 27 km from the epicenter.
