A state-appointed panel is probing the recent deaths of seven elephants in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh. Forest officials speculate Kodo millet poisoning, but await autopsy results for confirmation.
Following fatalities among the herd of 13 elephants, three more have fallen seriously ill. The forest department has started monitoring the remaining elephants closely.
The deaths have sparked public outcry and prompted an investigation order from Forest Minister Ramniwas Rawat. He has called for swift action from the Special Investigation Team to identify those responsible for this ecological tragedy.
