A devastating incident unfolded in Delhi on Tuesday morning when a wall of an under-construction building collapsed, resulting in the tragic deaths of two family members. The collapse occurred near the lieutenant governor's house in the Civil Lines area, where rain had weakened the structure. The victims were identified as Meera, 40, and her 17-year-old son, Ganpath. Meera's elder son Dashrath, aged 19, and her brother-in-law Nanhe, 35, sustained injuries in the accident.

The four individuals, who had only recently arrived in Delhi from Madhya Pradesh in search of better livelihoods, were working as laborers at the Sehgal Colony site. Authorities reported that Meera and Ganpath were inside a makeshift shelter, while Nanhe and Dashrath were nearby when the wall, measuring approximately 15 feet, collapsed on them. All four were rescued from the debris and rushed to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital for medical attention.

The police have launched an investigation into the tragic accident, citing the lack of safety measures at the construction sites implicated. The construction at plot no. 1 was handled by Atul Goel, while plot no. 7's work was undertaken by M/s Pari Estates Pvt. Ltd. A case has been registered at the Civil Lines police station under various sections related to negligent conduct and endangerment of life. As this heart-wrenching incident raises questions about construction safety standards, the affected family plans to return to their village, now grieving the loss of two loved ones.
