The Madhya Pradesh government has revealed a costly oversight concerning a swimming pool built in Burhanpur at an expense of Rs 1.5 crore. Constructed in 2011, the pool has remained unused due to the absence of a permanent water source and leakage issues.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Archana Chitnis raised the issue in the assembly, questioning the accountability behind the decision. In response, Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya acknowledged the problem, stating an inquiry committee has been set up to determine responsibility, with a report pending under the Superintendent Engineer of Ujjain Municipal Corporation.

The construction's funding stemmed from the Central government's Backward Region Grant Fund Scheme. This unenviable situation highlights the need for meticulous planning and execution in public projects, ensuring resource availability and structural integrity from the outset.
