The Army launched a swift response on Sunday following a catastrophic cloudburst that struck Jodh Ghati village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, leading to seven fatalities. Overnight rains compounded the disaster, necessitating urgent helicopter and ground interventions to rescue and evacuate affected residents.
Officials confirmed that Army helicopters airlifted 15 injured individuals to hospitals, with Dhruv choppers transporting the severely injured to nearby Pathankot in Punjab. The Rising Star Corps is actively collaborating with police, the State Disaster Response Force, and local volunteers to provide essential relief, including food and medical assistance.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, overseeing relief efforts, highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by connectivity issues due to heavy rainfall. Despite these obstacles, air-supplied provisions and a committed rescue operation continue to support the affected communities in Kathua and Janglote.
