Delhi Unveils Asia's Largest Wastewater Treatment Marvel

The Delhi Jal Board is set to inaugurate Asia's largest wastewater treatment plant in Okhla. Supported by Japan's JICA and costing Rs. 1,161.18 crores, this project serves around 40 lakh residents. The ceremony on September 30 will feature eminent personalities, showcasing India's strides in urban wastewater management.

Delhi is poised for a significant milestone as the Jal Board prepares to inaugurate Asia's largest wastewater treatment plant in Okhla on September 30. The ambitious project, funded with the support of Japan's International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will be graced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other dignitaries.

This monumental facility, sprawling across 40 acres, was built at a cost of Rs 1,161.18 crores and aims to serve approximately 40 lakh residents across various South Delhi localities. The plant is designed to generate power and produce A-class sludge after sewage treatment, setting a new benchmark in urban wastewater management.

Despite hurdles like the Covid pandemic and construction bans, the plant's completion in 2025 marks a significant achievement for the Delhi government and the National Mission for Clean Ganga. The inauguration promises to be a grand event, reflecting the collaborative efforts between India and Japan to improve urban infrastructure.
