On Diwali night, Shimla and several other locations in Himachal Pradesh witnessed devastating fires that ravaged properties worth crores of rupees. Officials reported on Tuesday that a staggering 47 fire incidents took place, with three being described as major. The widespread damage underscored the need for better fire safety measures.
One of the significant blazes erupted in the upper floors of a multi-story hotel in Manikaran, Kullu district. Quick action ensured the safe evacuation of all tourists and hotel staff, with no casualties reported. However, the loss of property was considerable, painting a grim picture for local businesses and tourism-related enterprises in the area.
The Himachal Pradesh Fire Services issued an advisory urging the public to celebrate safely by bursting crackers only in open spaces, and restricted green crackers to be used between 8 pm to 10 pm. Despite clear regulations, reports indicated that cracker bursting continued well past the designated time, contributing to the hazardous conditions.
