Cyclone Ditwah has wreaked havoc across Sri Lanka, claiming 46 lives and leaving 23 people missing due to catastrophic floods and landslides. Over 300mm of rainfall has battered the eastern and central regions, affecting nearly 44,000 individuals nationwide.

The flooding prompted the Colombo Stock Exchange to halt trading and led to the suspension of schools and train services. Emergency evacuations are ongoing, coordinated by military and police forces. Notably, 13 individuals were airlifted from a bridge in Polonnaruwa.

Colombo's main airport faced disruptions, causing 15 flights to be redirected. India has dispatched food aid as Sri Lankan authorities brace for continued challenges with the cyclone moving toward southern India. Residents are urged to seek shelter as floodwaters rise.
