The central government has announced plans to transform Belgaria in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, into a model township, according to Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt. The initiative focuses on providing comprehensive facilities to families displaced by mining-induced fires and subsidence.

Dutt, during his recent visit, inaugurated a new administrative building by the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA), which has been developing the township to rehabilitate affected families. He assured residents that facilities like water, electricity, security, and employment opportunities would be made available, comparable to those in other parts of Dhanbad.

Accompanied by Coal India Limited Chairman Sanoj Kumar Jha, Dutt also engaged with the local community, gathering feedback and planting trees as part of the development efforts. Over a two-day visit, Dutt plans to inspect fire-affected regions and discuss the relocation of vulnerable families with JRDA and Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) officials.
