Tesla Breaks Norwegian Sales Record, Surpasses Volkswagen
Tesla has shattered the annual car sales record in Norway by registering 28,606 vehicles by November 2025, surpassing Volkswagen's 2016 benchmark. Despite a European backlash over Elon Musk's political affiliations, Tesla's sales surged, driven by the Model Y and anticipated tax hikes on electric vehicles.
Tesla has achieved a remarkable feat in Norway by breaking the annual car sales record, as showcased by registration data reported on Monday. The electric-vehicle maker registered 28,606 cars by November, surpassing the previous milestone set by Volkswagen in 2016.
This surge, spearheaded by the Model Y, occurred despite a widespread European consumer backlash against the brand over CEO Elon Musk's controversial political stances. Norway's impending increase in EV taxes in January prompted a rush at dealerships, with Tesla seeing an almost threefold sales spike compared to the same period in 2024.
While Tesla's global deliveries are expected to decline, Norway has become a pivotal market for the company amid declining European sales. Fully electric vehicles now make up 97.6% of Norway's new car sales, aligning with the nation's goal to end the sale of combustion engines by 2025.
