Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed serious concern over the inadequate dust control measures at Delhi Metro construction sites. She issued a stern warning to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday, urging immediate action to address these lapses.
Highlighting the need for environmental responsibility, Gupta insisted that construction activities must not contribute to pollution, according to an official statement. She announced plans for surprise inspections and warned of strict actions against negligence. Gupta criticized the DMRC for not adequately responding to recurring public complaints about dust emissions and construction debris.
The chief minister directed the DMRC to implement modern dust mitigation strategies, ensure cleanliness under elevated metro routes, and engage in regular waste removal. Senior government officials, including Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, were present during the meeting, aiming for a collective approach to tackle rising pollution levels.
