Polar Vortex Unleashes Record-Breaking Arctic Chill Across U.S.

The central and eastern United States are experiencing an unprecedented Arctic chill, with temperatures plunging far below seasonal norms, from the Midwest to the East Coast. This cold front, stemming from the polar vortex, began on Thursday and is likely to persist, according to meteorologists.

Record low temperatures were reported in several states, including all-time lows in Iowa and significant drops across Michigan and New York. In many areas, temperatures have plunged as much as 20 degrees Fahrenheit below average, with snowy weather also anticipated in parts of the Midwest and Rockies.

Furthermore, there is a threat of black ice formation due to freezing fog in Indiana and Oklahoma. The U.S. Weather Prediction Center warns that this unusually severe weather pattern, although occurring before the official start of winter, will continue to affect large areas of the country in the coming weeks.
