A demolition incident at Atgaon station, Thane, turned tragic on Saturday. An iron staircase collapsed, causing the death of one labourer and critically injuring another, as confirmed by authorities.
The accident occurred amidst the dismantling of the station's old ticket house. A section of an adjacent rusted iron bridge structure suddenly crumbled, trapping two workers below, an official from Shahapur police station reported.
Rescue teams, including police and railway officials, quickly arrived at the scene. One labourer, with severe leg injuries, was rescued and taken to Shahapur's sub-district hospital where his condition remains critical. Unfortunately, the second labourer, trapped under the heavy iron, was declared dead upon recovery.
