Tasmanian police have announced their participation in a privately organized search operation for Belgian national Celine Cremer, who disappeared in the region over two years ago. The involvement comes after Cremer's mobile phone was found in a previously searched area on the island.
Cremer's loved ones initiated the new search near Philosopher Falls, where she vanished in June 2023. While her car was discovered soon after her disappearance, earlier search efforts rendered no results. The recovered phone, confirmed as Cremer's, is undergoing forensic analysis as police formally engage in the independent search campaign.
Inspector Andrew Hanson from Tasmania Police speculated that Cremer may have attempted a shortcut off the Philosopher Falls track using a mobile app, only to drop her phone and become lost. Meanwhile, Cremer's friends have traveled from Belgium to partake in the renewed five-day search, with the prospect of winter weather having reduced her chances of survival significantly.
