The Delhi government's new initiatives targeting air pollution include a comprehensive overhaul of the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) system with the introduction of third-party monitoring. A car-pooling app is also in development to ease vehicular congestion, as announced by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
In a press conference, Sirsa elaborated on the steps, such as hiring a third-party agency to monitor potholes and collaborating with Google Maps to identify traffic and vehicular pollution hotspots. The plan involves upgrading the traffic management system to address congestion in real-time.
Efforts are underway to integrate regional cooperation with neighboring states, and a partnership with IIT Madras aims to create smog-reducing surfaces. Additionally, 100 electric buses will be introduced to the public transportation fleet, marking a significant stride towards sustainable urban mobility.
